Hundreds of volunteers attended the annual City of Swan Volunteer Fire Brigade Awards this month, an event that recognises those who go above and beyond for our community in times of need.
The City proudly supports several volunteer bush fire brigades, the Volunteer Fire and Emergency Services and the State Emergency Service.
The awards are one way our community can show its continued appreciation for those who put their lives on the line to protect others.
To acknowledge their years of commitment, 41 volunteers were presented with certificates for extended service.
Among the recipients was Phillip Corbin who was recognised for an incredible 45 years of service to the volunteer bush fire service.
More than 350 volunteers attended the awards on Saturday, June 1.
Tanya Richardson, City of Swan Mayor, said the event was about honouring the selfless volunteers who had our backs in challenging situations.
“You all willingly, generously and bravely give your time and energy to keep our community safe,” she said.
“In the last 10 months, volunteer brigades and units attended more than 650 incidents and callouts.
“Most were within the City of Swan, but they were also in neighbouring communities, including Wanneroo, Lancelin, Toodyay and Parkerville.”
