Development of a second access road for Shady Hills has officially begun in a boost for bushfire safety.
The project involves 3.85km of new road and an upgrade to 590m of existing road, starting at Great Northern Highway and ending at Clarkson Road.
Tanya Richardson, City of Swan Mayor, said the new access road would give Shady Hills residents more peace of mind, especially during the hotter months of the year.
“When the devastating 2021 Wooroloo bushfire happened, we leapt to our community’s aid and provided extensive recovery support,” Mayor Richardson said.
“We also knew we had to immediately look at where improvements could be made.
“With one access way in and out of Shady Hills, it was clear there needed to be an additional route as a fire escape for our residents now and into the future.”
The project has been made possible by a $1.9 million contribution from the State Government.
The new Shady Hills access road is expected to complete in July 2024.
