The Ellenbrook Community Hub project has received a $2 million boost from Lotterywest.
WA Local Government Minister Hannah Beazley presented the grant to the City of Swan on a visit to the future site of the facility on Tuesday, September 24.
Minister Beazley was joined in Ellenbrook by Swan Hills MLA Jessica Shaw, East Metropolitan MLC Lorna Harper, Hasluck MP Tania Lawrence, Lotterywest Director Grants and Community Development Helen McGinty, City of Swan Mayor Tanya Richardson and City of Swan CEO Stephen Cain.
The project has already received funding commitments of $3.5m from the State Government and $2m from the Federal Government.
The City has provided $500,000 for landscaping and the land itself on Cashman Avenue near Ellenbrook District Open Space.
Ellenbrook Community Hub will give local community groups, including Ellenbrook Men’s Shed, a place to call home.
The City has carried out extensive community consultation to plan for the facility, which will feature a workshop, a large function hall and other flexible spaces.
Construction is scheduled for completion in the 2025/26 financial year.
"The Ellenbrook Community Hub is a community-driven project that is being made possible by strong investment from Lotterywest, and the State and Federal Governments,” Mayor Richardson said.
"It will give local community groups a place to call their own, where they can run programs and host events.
"The Ellenbrook area continues to experience rapid growth, and this is the sort of facility that will boost social inclusion, cohesion and wellbeing."
Minister Beazley said the State Government was proud to support the project.
"I want to acknowledge my friend and colleague, retiring local MP Jessica Shaw, for her persuasive and persistent advocacy for the hub on behalf of the Ellenbrook community,” she said.
"With the extra funding now secured from Lotterywest, I am thrilled that the project will soon become reality.
"It will provide a vital centre for local community clubs and organisations, with residents benefiting from the services being provided and the activities being offered.
"Lotterywest have been a cornerstone of support for our community, providing invaluable grants that enable a wide range of projects, and we are deeply grateful to them for their unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of Western Australians through their generous grants."
