Dr Sarah McQuade has been appointed the City of Swan’s new Executive Director Place Stakeholder Management.
A highly regarded leader with experience in the local and State government sectors, Dr McQuade will start with the City on Monday, July 1, 2024.
She joins Swan – a vast and diverse local government area that covers almost 20 per cent of Perth – after almost nine years with the City of Canning.
She spent the past three-and-a-half years as Canning’s Director Customer and Community, leading the City’s community-facing services and programs.
Before entering the local government sector, she gained executive leadership experience with the State Library of WA as Director Community, Learning and Discovery.
Dr McQuade also served as chair of the National and State Libraries Australasia’s Indigenous Working Group from 2011 to 2014.
She is a Doctor of Philosophy and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).
In her new role with Swan, she will lead the City’s Customer Experience, Communications and Engagement, Organisational Planning and Development, and Business and Tourism Services teams.
“I am excited to be joining the City of Swan and working in partnership with the community to help shape the sustainable growth of the City,” Dr McQuade said.
“It is a privilege to join the City's Executive Team and to work alongside them and Council in continuing the great work they're doing in supporting Swan to continue to grow and prosper.”
Dr McQuade will replace Meriel Pickering, who is leaving the City to continue her career in local government.
Stephen Cain, City of Swan CEO, said Dr McQuade would be a valuable member of the Swan administration and community.
“With one of the fastest-growing populations of any local government in WA, it’s important that we have great people in leadership positions,” Mr Cain said.
“Sarah’s experience suits this role extremely well and I look forward to working with her to ensure a bright future for our community.”
