City of Swan’s award-winning Stock Road extension vies for national honour

The City of Swan is in the running for a national project management honour after winning a State award for its $71 million Stock Road extension.

The City was the WA winner of the Government Project category of this year’s Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) Project Management Achievement Awards.

The win earns the City automatic entry as a finalist at the national awards, which will be presented at the AIPM National Conference in Canberra on October 22.

The Stock Road extension is a 4.3km connection between Great Northern Highway and Tonkin Highway.

It features a bridge over Ellen Brook, a rail crossing, five T-intersections and a roundabout at Great Northern Highway.

The Federal Government provided $16.67m in funding for the project, which was also backed by developer contribution plans.

When it opened in September 2023, it was described as “an investment that is going to pay off for Perth” by Catherine King, Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government.

“The Stock Road upgrade increases road safety and allows heavy vehicles to bypass the Bullsbrook town completely, reducing traffic delays and noise disturbances,” Minister King said at the time.

“Upgrading Stock Road also opens up substantial new opportunities for industrial and commercial developments in the area.”

The AIPM honour comes after the City’s Stock Road extension took out the top prize at the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia WA Awards for Excellence 2024 in March.
